Ranch Home Plans: What You Need to Know

One way to ensure that your homes are more accessible is to consider a style known as the ranch home. But many people, especially potential homeowners, might not know how ranch home plans differ from other types of house designs.

When it’s time to build a new custom home, looking forward to the future is a good idea. One way to ensure that your homes are more accessible is to consider a style known as the ranch home. But many people, especially potential homeowners, might not know how ranch home plans differ from other types of house designs.  The basic premise of a ranch style home is that all living space is on one level.

The Benefits

Building a ranch-style house as your custom home has many benefits. Some of them you might not be able to appreciate until you decide to age in place. In the meantime, though, everyone in your family will find something to like about these advantages:

  1. No need for stairs: Ranch home plans do not have stairs included. This is a design feature standard to all one-story homes. Ranchers have all of their rooms spread out across one level and take advantage of an open floor plan.
  2.  Open floor plan: The first generation of ranch homes first appeared in the 1920s. Even though it has been almost a century since then, ranch home plans have not evolved all that much. Open floor plans are a trendy element of custom home design and one that you shouldn’t ignore. The kitchen flows into the dining room and the dining room leads directly into the living room.
  3.  Lower maintenance: Many homeowners find themselves worried about how to take care of their homes. Another reason to choose ranch home plans is that these houses cost less to maintain than their counterparts. Since you won’t need to use a ladder, cleaning off the windows, siding, and gutters is much easier than if your home had several stories!
  4. Lower price point:  Many times custom homes are made smaller to reduce the cost of the purchase.  Ranch style homes can be built smaller than other styles because the stairs make other styles difficult to design at less than 1,800 sq. ft.   Designing a home with less square footage is the quickest way to bring down the initial cost of construction.
