Our Top Tips For Caring For Your New Custom Home

A custom home is a huge investment and like any investment, you’re going to want to make sure you’re properly caring for it.

Buying and building your very own custom home is a huge investment to make. Like any investment, you want to maintain it as best as you can so it holds onto its value but also so that you can enjoy it as much as you should be able to. When it comes to your custom home, you need to keep your eye on a few routine maintenance tasks so that everything is tidy and functioning the way it does the day your home was finished being built. Here are some guidelines for caring for your new custom home and what you should keep an eye out for.

Pay Attention to Plumbing

Plumbing issues can quickly spiral out of control if you’re not paying attention to what’s going on. Ensure that your septic system, if you’re on one, is pumped out regularly; the average is about once every two to three years. You also want to regularly check your crawl space once or twice a year to make sure everything is as it should be. Take a look around any visible plumbing pipes in your crawl space or check cabinets just to make sure there are no signs of leaks as well.

Keep Gutters Clean

As dreadful as cleaning your gutters may seem, it’s an important part of home ownership. Your custom home may have been designed with gutter shields in place, which goes a long way in automating the whole ordeal. On the other hand, you can always hire someone to come get the job done for you. Just remember that neglecting your gutters can ultimately damage your landscaping or roofing or promote water intrusion in your crawl space.

Swap Out Batteries

Keeping your custom home safe is just about one of the most important things you can do. That includes keeping your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors up and running, so do routine battery checks and swap out new batteries whenever you need to.

Keep Caulk Fresh

Your custom home likely has a decked out bathroom that has all the bells and whistles, but you want to do everything in your power to maintain that aesthetic. You can annually reapply caulk to the edges of your shower and bathtub, which prevents damages and makes everything look nice and clean again.
