How to Design Your Custom Home With Your Health in Mind

The design of your home can actually influence you and your family’s health.

One factor of custom home design that is often overlooked is gaining more traction as the days pass. We’re referring to wellness, the idea that the design of your home can actually influence you and your family’s health over the years. Healthier lifestyles are quickly becoming far more critical to people, but it’s not readily apparent that even choices surrounding your home can impact your health. With the right features in mind, you may change your sense of wellness. Below, we take a look at a few custom home design decisions that can end up impacting your health.

Clean Air

Maintaining clean air is a big part of having a fresh, uplifting atmosphere that you always want to come home to. Including plants in your custom home can help with that feeling, but in terms of design, you’re going to want to think about floors first. Carpets tend to build allergens up and can be problematic for anyone with a sensitivity to air conditions. This doesn’t mean you have to avoid carpets altogether, though, but you may want to include a whole-home vacuum system if you do have carpets so it’s easy to keep them clean. Finally, ask questions about what HVAC system will be installed and see if there are any filters that you can use to make your air extra-clean.

Healthy Water

Clean, toxin-free water is undoubtedly part of having a healthy custom home. Whether you’re on the grid or not, you’re likely going to want to filter your water. Some people opt to use smaller personal filters that need to be refilled and find a home in your refrigerator. Another way to do this is by installing a whole-home water filtration system. This prevents you from needing to worry about any of your water and whether or not it will contain toxins.

Enough Light

Natural sunlight is essential in maintaining an emotional balance and keeping you energetic. Building a custom home with adequate windows can help pump that lovely natural light into your home, keeping you awake and aware.

The Right Materials

Modern building materials can sometimes contain chemical compounds that can act as irritants. Getting rid of VOC (volatile organic compound) materials, as much as possible anyway, can help ease some health issues.
