How to Attach Ground-Level Decks to Your Single-Story Delaware Home

Decks give you more living space and will also improve your Return on Investment. If you want to add a deck to your single-story home in Delaware, then here are some tips you can follow!

When it comes to building your custom home, there are many decisions you need to make. For instance, do you want a ground-level deck? What about attaching decks to every level of your home? The answer to that question might surprise you. Decks give you more living space and will also improve your Return on Investment. If you want to add a deck to your single-story home in Delaware, then here are some tips you can follow!

Decide Where to Place the Deck

First of all, you will need to select the location of the deck. Most of the time, you will find the deck to be adjacent to a Master Bedroom, Great Room, or Dining Room. Think about the levels of sun, shade, and wind. You’ll also have to take the surrounding views into account. Finally, consider if privacy is important to you, especially if you are pairing your deck with a pool or hot tub.

Choose the Decking Material

What do you want the deck to be made of? You’ll need to answer this question as soon as possible. While pressure-treated wood is the least expensive option, it does tend to crack and splinter. Cedar is rot-resistant, which is good news if you don’t want the hassle of constant maintenance but still want the natural feel of wood. Lastly, composite and PVC vinyl decking is the most expensive decking material, but it will last longer than treated wood or cedar.

Consider Different Amenities

How do you want to upgrade your deck? Decks often carry more amenities than you might expect at first. Some options include railings, lighting, seating, and storage. When it comes to getting the most out of a single-story house plan, you might not immediately think of a deck. Still, they do more to complement your custom home than you might think!
