5 Beautiful Staircase Options for Your Custom-Built Home

Unless your new home is only on one level, you will need a set of staircases. One staircase could be located just off the foyer and lead to the upstairs hall.

Unless your new home is only on one level, you will need a set of staircases. One staircase could be located just off the foyer and lead to the upstairs hall. Likewise, you could also have a flight of stairs going down into the basement. Do you need to access your finished attic? Instead of pulling open a hatch concealed in the ceiling, you could incorporate a slender staircase to reach it more easily!

Straight Staircases

The ordinary-looking straight staircase is often overlooked and taken for granted more than it deserves. With such a setup in place, you can make more ornate railings shine, or at the other end of the spectrum, focus on a minimalist aesthetic that is clean and sleek.

The L-Shape Configuration

You may have heard of or seen L-shape staircases before. They are also known as quarter-turn staircases. After the straight staircase, the L-shape is the second most commonly seen construction.

The U-Shape Arrangement

U-shaped staircases present more interesting aesthetic effects and follow a different design. They are also called half-turn or switchbacks; the landing in the middle is its most notable feature. Beware, however, that their price might be more than you want to spend. Besides, it’s much more difficult to navigate cumbersome pieces of furniture up these steps.

Winders

Winding stairs are much more commonly found in historic homes. The steps wind as they go up – starting from the bottom all the way to the top. They look much better in small homes, but they tend to be narrow, so it is much harder to walk through them.

Spirals

Spiral staircase designs are another trendy choice for custom homes. They make for a fantastic solution when interior space is at a premium. These stairs are only supported by a single post. As such, it’s more than likely that you’ll need at least one other, more conventional staircase in your home as well.
